What infrastructure is required for electric buses / delivery trucks? Do I need to install expensive charging stations?

All Motiv-powered electric vehicles charge using high-power Level 2 (19.2kW) via using the J1772 connector. For fleets that want faster charging times, Motiv offers optional Level 3 DC Fast Charging (60kW) capability via the CCS1 connector.

Will my electric bus or delivery vehicle handle hills as well as a comparable gasoline or diesel powered vehicle?

Motiv’s hill-hold feature uses onboard integrated accelerometers and control algorithms to retard vehicle rollback when halted on inclines. Acceleration and hill-climbing performance is comparable to combustion-powered vehicles.

How much does cold weather or other environmental factors affect the range and efficiency of my electric bus / delivery vehicle?

Using cabin heating or cooling for very long periods of time will reduce the range/efficiency of your electric vehicle. Motiv can conduct a complementary Route Analysis to estimate what effect this will have on your electric vehicle’s overall range.

How long does it take to fully charge my electric bus / delivery vehicle?

It takes approximately 8 hours to fully charge a Motiv electric vehicle from 0%. With optional DC Fast Charging, vehicles can be fully recharged in as little as 2.5 hours.

Will my electric bus or delivery vehicle have the same carrying / payload capacity as a gasoline or diesel powered vehicle with the same rating?

Due to the weight of the onboard batteries and motor, medium-duty electric vehicles have lower payload capability than their combustion-powered counterparts.

Is an electric vehicle really better for the environment?

The Union of Concerned Scientists recently completed an analysis on EV emissions across the U.S. Based on where electric vehicles (EVs) operate, driving the average EV produces global warming pollution equal to a gasoline vehicle that gets 88 miles per gallon (mpg) fuel economy. Considering the most efficient gasoline car is 58 mpg, an EV is significantly better for the environment and far cleaner than the average new gasoline car (31 mpg) or truck (21 mpg) sold in the US. They estimate that EV emissions are about 10% lower than a previous estimate two years ago. About 94 percent of people in the US live where driving an EV produces less emissions than using a 50 mpg gasoline car.
